What's the difference between Support Coordination and Specialist Support Coordination?

A Support Coordinator and a Specialist Support Coordinator are very similar however there are some key differences.

A Specialist Support Coordinator will be funded where there are additional high or complex needs in your situation.

Specialist support coordinators will support you to manage challenges in your support environment which may include health, education, or justice services.
Specialist support coordination aims to reduce barriers to implementing or using your NDIS plan.

We are a Specialist Support Coordinator but we also provide general support coordination.

About us at CulturalShift
Our director has provided three and a half decades of love, care, and support to her sister who has moderate/severe disability alongside other complex needs. As family, caregivers, and supporters, she has active engagement within the disability space for decades, with professional experience for seven years.
CulturalShift operates upon a rights-based framework. Everything we do is to ensure that your NDIS supports and mechanisms are in place for you, no matter what your specific needs are. We want you to have the opportunity to fulfil your hopes, dreams, and aspirations. That means the right to be included in ordinary life, in the community, and in all public systems. We will smooth the way forward so that you can do this; all you need to provide is the will and determination.

CulturalShift means just that - the desire, no, the demand that a cultural shift happens in the way the service system delivers and responds to people with disability. Your support system should not benefit the service system more than you, the service user. As Support Coordinators, our role is to work alongside you to shape your supports to be of maximum benefit to your life.

Our determination is to build upon your NDIS plan so that it works for you, the service user. We ultimately want to be part of a community where each person has opportunity, choice, variety, and the community connections to flourish.

We want to build upon what we know can enrich the lives of all people with disability, but especially those who use our Support Coordination services. We do this through excellent Support Coordination, offering community connections that are enriching, thorough report writing, and evidence-based planning.

Our fees for Support Coordination are charged at the NDIS price rate at 6-minute increments.

Our goal with CulturalShift is to pull together the best and the most exciting opportunities that your region has to offer, so that our participating members have an amazing smorgasbord of choice along with the absolute choice in whom you hire to share your NDIS supported goals and experiences. We can help you connect with a personal assistant, a therapist, or a stand-out community opportunity. So if you want to form good, strong, independent relationships, or to discover what different organisations in your region have to offer, we are here to help.

*CulturalShift is fully insured for Professional Indemnity & Public Liability and everyone working for us is fully vetted and has their WWCC and National Police checks.

The Story Behind CulturalShift:
Ella Marriott
Ella started her career as a paediatric registered nurse, which was a rewarding career that she thoroughly enjoyed. However, when the NDIS came to fruition Ella felt called to move away from clinical nursing, driven to play a role in the success of the greatest social reform of her lifetime.

Starting out in support work, she moved into project management at a major disability organisation before becoming an NDIS planner on the Gold Coast. Whilst working as a planner and then LAC was a very stimulating and interesting work environment, it quickly became clear how many participants were missing out on essential supports and services due to red tape, inadequate evidence, and poor future planning. Within two years Ella disengaged from being a public servant and commenced work as a support coordinator.
Ella’s passion for support coordination is matched only by her success in the role. Outcomes for participants have been exceptional, with not one client coming out of a scheduled or unscheduled review with less funding than they went in with. Ella’s strengths lie in understanding the importance of collaborating with highly skilled allied health therapists, outlining clear expectations and strong communication with service providers, and bringing genuine warmth and care to her support to her clients. Ella’s background as a registered nurse has been invaluable in being able to understand the clinical needs of her clients; from medical support needs to disability support needs, Ella understands how to decipher reports, request additional evidence, and ultimately bring indisputable evidence to the NDIA to achieve great outcomes for participants.
As a sister of a woman with complex intellectual, sensory and psychosocial disabilities, Ella has always been passionate about inclusion and disability rights.
